Haiyan Gong

Biography

Dr. Haiyan Gong is a lecturer in the course Cell Biology, Histology and Ocular Anatomy, focusing on anterior chamber and aqueous humor production and outflow. She is also a thesis advisor for master or PhD students in the OD/MS and OD/PhD programs. For many years, she was in charge of the College’s human anatomy labs. She has served as a primary thesis advisor for four MS students in the OD/MS program. Dr. Gong received an MD from Jiangxi Medical College in Nanchang, China, a MS from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, and PhD from the Boston University School of Medicine in anatomy and neurobiology. Dr. Gong is a full-time faculty member at Department of Ophthalmology, Boston University School of Medicine. The research in Dr. Gong's laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms that regulate aqueous humor outflow resistance in normal eyes and how this resistance is increased in POAG in order to provide new insights for developing new therapeutic strategies to lower IOP.
