Biography
Ms. Elaine S. Ullian served as the President and Chief Executive Officer at Boston Medical Center Corporation from July 1996 to January 2010. Ms. Ullian served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Boston University Medical Center Hospital from April 1994 to July 1996 and Faulkner Hospital from January 1987 to March 1994. She served leadership positions in New England Medical Center Hospital and with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. She has 20 years of experience delivering health care to patients as Chief Executive Officer of major hospitals. She served as Presiding Director of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc until February 2009. She has been Director of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated since 1997 and serves as its Co-Lead Independent Director. Ms. Ullian has been an Independent Director at Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. since July 2001. She has been Lead Independent Director of Hologic Inc. since June 2015 and as its Director since October 22, 2007 and served as Director from 1996 to 2003. She serves as a Director of Boston Foundation, The, Massachusetts Hospital Association and The Boston Globe. She serves as a Member of the Boston Public Health Commission. She served as a Trustee of Boston Medical Center Corporation. She served as a Director of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts of Citizens Bank, National Association. She served as a Director of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International from 2004 to January 01, 2008. In May 2004, she was honored by the Mattapan Community Health Center for her leadership in public health. She is an Associate Professor of Boston University School of Public Health and a Member of the Faculty at the Harvard University School of Public Health. In January 2002 she was the recipient of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award for Lifetime Achievement. In 2002, she was the John D. Thompson Distinguished Visiting Professor at Yale University. She received the YWCA Women's Achievement Award and also the Boston University School of Medicine Award of Achievement in Administration. Her other awards include the Distinguished Service Award from Tufts University, the Mass Health Council Award for Outstanding Leadership in Public Health, the Abigail Adams Award presented by the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus and the Maimonides Award for outstanding leadership in healthcare, presented by the Anti-Defamation League. Ms. Ullian holds a MPH from the University of Michigan and a BA Degree in Political Science from Tufts University.
