Biography

 Dr Thomas J Kalista is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree in 2013 from the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy (URI) in Kingston, RI, after which he completed a post-graduate year 1 (PGY1) community pharmacy residency with URI and Rite Aid Pharmacy. He has received advanced certification from the Rhode Island Department of Health as a diabetes (CDOE) and cardiovascular disease (CVDOE) outpatient educator. Since residency, Dr Kalista has practiced in a variety of pharmacy settings, including independent pharmacy in Nantucket, MA, Rite Aid Pharmacy in Providence, RI, and most recently in collaboration with the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties (VNSRI) in Portsmouth, RI, providing in-home pharmacy care to VNSRI patients as part of a grant awarded by the van Beuren Charitable Foundation. His current practice is in the Primary Care Pharmacy Clinic at RiverBend Medical Group in Agawam, MA. Dr Kalista has served as a preceptor and resource for Doctor of Pharmacy students and PGY1 residents, and possesses a great passion for both teaching and patient care. His specialties include community and ambulatory care pharmacy practice, as well as chronic disease state management, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and asthma/COPD.
