Biography
Having previously served as Gem's CEO, Dr. Walsh has significant corporate, scientific, and legal expertise. Prior to Gem, he was Vice President, Biological Sciences at BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: BCRX), where he participated in two successful public equity offerings. Prior to BioCryst, he was Director of Research and Development at the U.S. Pharmaceutical Division of Smith & Nephew, and earlier he was Group Leader of Vascular Diseases at G. D. Searle & Co. and Manager of Pharmacology with Baxter International. Dr. Walsh has also held academic positions at the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Tulane University School of Medicine, and the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Oregon State University, his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, and he is a registered patent attorney.
