Paulo Guedes

Biography

Paulo Guedes, is General Manager of SOMG - Sociedade de Operações e Manutenção de Gasodutos S.A., based in Luanda, Angola, managing the service company responsible for transporting natural gas via the offshore pipeline network to the Angola LNG-operated plant in Soyo. Paulo began his career at Sonangol E.P. in Facilities Department in 1992 where he worked as a Facilities Engineer and then as a Project Engineer until 2000. During that period he was involved in several major capital offshore upstream projects for Angola, from the engineering studies up to the installation and commissioning, including the fabrication and construction phase in yards overseas. Paulo became the first of all Secondees of the Angola LNG Project when he joined the project team in Houston in 2000 and was involved in the innovative process of the Design Competition for the Angola LNG plant, from the Pre-FEED until the EPC Award. Paulo also performed different roles in the preliminary assessment studies for the offshore pipeline network, the Congo River crossing conceptual study, the Angola LNG plant site selection process, ESHIA, Local Content and Socio-Economic Impact Assessment Studies. In 2006, Paulo become Head of Engineering in Sonangol Gas Natural which is responsible for the development and execution of various natural gas and LPG projects in Angola, either green or brown fields projects. Paulo was appointed Deputy General Manager of SOMG in November 2014 and in July 2015, he became General Director. Paulo is graduated in Civil Engineering from Brno University of Technology and is certified in Oil and Gas from OGCI-Petroskills and in Project Management by PMI-George Washington University.
