Biography
My main research interest is the development of new neuroprotective strategies for the management of spinal cord injury and brain injury. We have at present a large programme of research on a polyunsaturated fatty acid which has shown neuroprotective potential in models of spinal cord injury and brain injury. We are also exploring other potential therapeutic targets and diversifying our experimental models and functional endpoints, so that we improve our way of modelling acute neuronal injury and the characterization of its evolution in pre-clinical models becomes more relevant to the clinical injury situation. My group has also started a programme of studies on new therapeutic directions in Alzheimer’s disease. Our work is associated with several patents..
