Biography

Joan C. Cuffie is a lecturer in Psychology at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus. She is a former Head of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit and served as Chair, National Advisory Council on Gender, Ministry of Family, Youth, Sports and Environment, Barbados, (2008-2012). She was Acting Tutor/Coordinator, Women and Development Unit (WAND), The University of the West Indies, Open Campus, Barbados, (2002/2003 & 2013/2014). She was the former Coordinator for MSc. Counselling Psychology Programme (2014/15). She has been the Faculty Liaison Officer for the UWI- University of California Education Abroad Programme for the past eight (8) years. She is also a trainer who has facilitated a wide range of training workshops in the areas of education, educational psychology, developmental psychology, gender and education, gender and development issues, peer education. Her current research interests are in the area of the psychological impact of gender issues on educational achievement and participation, students’ learning styles, coeducation and gender, gender and psychology, sexuality and HIV/AIDS. She has published in a number of journals and edited texts.
