Biography
Smith previously served as President and CEO of the Institute for Drug, Device and Diagnostic Development. Smith co-founded CID4, a not-for-profit, to provide funding and management assistance to early stage Colorado-based life science companies. In its first three years of operations, CID4 has invested in eight Portfolio companies which have raised in excess of $20 million of growth capital and created 75 jobs. He also served as President of Gambro, Inc., from 1998 until its acquisition by private equity investors in 2006. As a member of the Gambro AB Executive Committee, Smith was actively involved in strategy matters and took lead roles in many projects including numerous acquisitions and the evaluation of new business opportunities. Before joining Gambro, he was a partner in the Denver and New York offices of Ernst & Young, specializing in entrepreneurial services and led the formation of E&Y’s Denver Life Sciences Practice. Smith currently serves on numerous Boards, including the Board of Donor Alliance and Exempla Health Systems in Denver.
