Biography
Mr Symons graduated from the University of New England, Armidale NSW in 1980 with a Bachelor of Financial Administration. He worked in a variety of financial and accounting roles from 1979 to 2001 for various firms including Myer Department Stores, BHP Stainless and BHP Limited at Port Kembla. He has also worked at other organisations including the Universities of New South Wales and Wollongong, managing the accounting department of the Wollongong university’s research company, Unisearch Limited. At BHP Stainless, Mr Symons was the Management and Financial accountant for a division of 400 employees and turnover of $125 million. Mr Symons trained over 250 Wollongong University staff in the use of the university’s new financial accounting system including the introduction of GST. He has been a member of the Institute of Public Accountants since 2009. He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants, and is also a Registered Tax Agent.
