Biography
Dr. Andrew Heyward is a Senior Principal Research Scientist in Exploring Marine Biodiversity Team based in Western Australia. He is interested in the reproductive processes of marine organisms commenced in the 1980s and has included continuing research with corals in both hemispheres. During the period 1990-94 his research interests extended into the developing field of Marine Biotechnology, investigating industrial utilization of marine organisms in Japan and exposure to advanced reproductive technologies as a QEII Fellow at Adelaide University's School of Medicine, prior to joining the Australian Institute of Marine Science in 1994. While basic research on coral ecology continues to be an area of interest, the majority of subsequent effort has been associated with marine seabed biodiversity surveys. In north-western Australia this research is servicing the needs of marine management agencies focused on conservation and providing industry with targeted research underpinning sustainability.
