Biography
Dr.Angus Thompson is a Coordinator of the coral component of the Reef Rescue Marine Monitoring Program. He did BSc Marine Biology. 1989. James Cook University, Australia. His professional career has been focused on the assessment and reporting of reef-fish and coral communities. He was initially recruited into the AIMS long-term monitoring program (LTMP) in 1989. From 1992 through to 2003 he undertook the monitoring of reef fish communities on the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). Whilst with the LTMP, I developed skills in the application of sampling designs, and statistical analyses required to interpret and report long-term trends in coral reef communities. In addition this time gave me a clear appreciation of the need for an unyielding focus on data integrity through the use of sound data management and quality control measures. His field and analytical skills allowed my participation in surveys of reef fish communities across tropical Australia, the Coral Sea and also the Arabian Gulf.
