Biography
Mr. Kern is a founder and General Partner of Kern Whelan Capital. Prior to founding Kern Whelan, he spent over a decade building a successful track record in private equity investing as Managing Director of Reynolds, DeWitt & Co. in Cincinnati, where from 2001 he led all acquisitions and venture financings. Prior to joining Reynolds, DeWitt in 1997, Mr. Kern was with McKinsey & Company as a management consultant to manufacturing and financial services firms. He is on the board of directors of many companies, including Pallet Logistics of America, Dixon Midland Co., and ProService Hawaii, and serves as a member of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Services and Finance Industries, which is administered jointly by the US Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative. Mr. Kern received a J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and his B.A. from Princeton University. He serves on the board of the Bay Area Discovery Museum and as Vice President of the Ross School Foundation. Among Mr. Kern’s many charitable involvements in Cincinnati, he served as a Trustee of the Cincinnati Symphony, Trustee and development Chair of the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, Trustee and Treasurer of The Taft Museum, and Trustee of the Visiting Nurse Association. He serves as President of his class at Phillips Exeter Academy and chaired his 25th reunion giving campaign.
