Dr Iain Field

Biography

 Iain holds a first class honours degree in Law from Edinburgh Napier University. Before moving to Australia in 2002, Iain worked for Thus plc (formerly Scottish Telecom) in telecoms regulation and contracts. Iain completed an LLM at Bond University in 2003, and took up a position as an academic fellow and PhD candidate the following year. In 2009, Iain was awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy for his thesis, 'Judicial Mediation and Ch III of the Commonwealth Constitution'. Iain's primary research interests are in the areas of tort law, constitutional law and dispute resolution. In the area of tort law, Iain has published on the topic of bereavement damages and is in the process of publishing a series of articles that examine the nature, function and classification of good faith defences in tort law. In the area of constitutional law and dispute resolution, Iain has published on Chapter III of the Australian Constitution, the role of judges, the relationship between the judicial process and ADR mechanisms such as mediation, and the roles of law officers. Iain has been the General Editor of the Bond Law Review since January 2015.
