Biography
Dr Romy Greiner holds the position of professor of tropical livelihoods at Charles Darwin University. Romy is an ecological/environmental economist and has made significant research contributions to: • understanding motivations for and drivers of conservation, production, consumption and adoption behaviour. • conceiving matters of Indigenous livelihoods, well-being and economic development as they relate to the environment. • measuring the benefits (monetary and well-being) and costs of alternative conservation options. • developing solutions to environmental problems at the business, industry and regional scales. • exploring the role of policy instruments in facilitating ecologically sustainable development with particular focus on market-based instruments. As well as important contributions to: • conducting economic research within a participatory action research framework and as part of interdisciplinary research teams; • supporting the translation of research results and scientific knowledge into management and policy; and • nurturing the professional development of young researchers.
