Biography
Dr Adam Frew obtained his BSc (Honours) degree from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, UK, where he worked with Dr Jane Wishart and Prof Pat Wilmer on silicon enhanced barley resistance to aphids and powdery mildew. Following this, Adam moved to Australia to work under the supervision of Dr Scott Johnson and Associate Prof Jeff Powell on a Sugar Research Australia postgraduate scholarship investigating the effects of silicon and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on sugarcane and the root-feeding canegrub. After completion of his PhD in 2017 Adam joined Charles Sturt University (CSU) when he was awarded a CSU Faculty of Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. Adam's research at CSU investigates the role of silicon in plants, specifically the mechanisms underpinning silicon enhanced plant resistance to insect herbivores and pathogens. He also maintains an interest in broader plant-insect ecology, including the impacts of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on plant-insect interactions.
