Alison Southwell

Biography

Alison was raised on the family farm and after graduating from the University of New England with BRurSc (Hons), undertook a PhD investigating the soil water dynamics beneath native pasture communities. Alison joined the staff of CSU in 2007, lecturing in Agricultural systems and had a major role in redesigning the Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree and developing the fourth year. Alison now also subject coordinates and teaches into the pastures subjects for various degrees. Alison is a member of the Graham Centre. She has been site leader for the Future Farm Industries CRC National Evergraze project for the Wagga Wagga region and has also managed farm systems/extension projects and PhD students locally and internationally. Her research interests include the eco-physiology of perennial pastures and grazing and farming systems management. In addition to her academic career, Alison is a mother of two, manages a 2000 head flock of merinos across two properties at Bookham and Mangoplah in NSW and is partner in a broadacre spraying and spreading contracting business in the Wagga Wagga district.
