Andrew Hall

Biography

Andrew Hall is an earth system scientist with specialist knowledge in climatology and vegetation remote sensing, with his work being reliant on expert application of geographic information science and remote sensing image analysis. Andrew is integral in large research project teams in both ecology and viticulture that have attracted several million dollars in funding over the past ten years. Until 2011, he led projects at the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre, publishing research papers in remote sensing and phenological modelling of grapevines. This work had measurable economic benefit to Australia, with a yield forecasting component alone estimated by NSW DPI economists to have benefited the economy by $30 million, and is regularly invited to present seminars to industry groups. Andrew is currently active in research projects within the Institute for Land, Water & Society, monitoring the effects of environmental watering actions, incorporating an ongoing interest in plant and landscape phenology. Andrew has a very active teaching role, having produced four new subjects in Advanced Geographic Information Science, Remote Sensing, Introductory Spatial Science, and Climatology and has coordinated an additional four more subjects, Introductory Physical Geography, River Hydrology, Geocomputation, and Image Analysis.
