Biography
Jessica (BN; MHSc (Ed) PhD candidate) began her career as a nurse in various metropolitan and rural hospitals in neurological, intensive care, medical and surgical, and nuclear medicine units. Jessica has also worked as a nurse in Justice Health. In 2007, Jessica began work as a nurse educator in the hospital system and taught at Wodonga Institute of TAFE, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Medic program). She then worked as a clinical supervisor to Bachelor of Nursing students from Latrobe University and Charles Sturt University. Jessica has held the position of Lecturer within the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Indigenous Health since 2008. Within this time she has coordinated the Bachelor of Science (General) Course and implemented change with the School Nursing team via nursing curriculum. She currently is the subject coordinator in Cultural competence across the Bachelor of Nursing degree reaching students from Ontario and national locations. She is a keen researcher currently completing her PhD; a phenomenological study looking at the cultural competence development across a cohort of students within a Bachelor of nursing degree; Australian Indigenous Cultural Competence and Nursing. She is also involved in several other research projects looking at effective teaching strategies in cultural competence and nursing team communication. Jessica has travelled extensively both overseas and throughout Australia. She is married to an academic Brett, and has two children Stella and Audrey.
