Biography
John's background includes a wide range of teaching. His experience includes teaching in primary schools, TAFE and for Charles Sturt University. He has taught in the learning difficulties area and has also worked with students with disabilities. At TAFE he taught literacy and numeracy and also developed communication courses in several subject areas. John has been a full time lecturer with Charles Sturt University since 2001. His particular area of interest is communication (frontline communication). He has been involved in developing, coordinating and teaching communication courses for the School of Policing Studies, the Centre for Investigative Studies and Crime Reduction and the NSW Police Force. He also has an interest in investigation, in particular investigative interviewing. In this area he has also been involved in developing, coordinating and teaching investigation courses for the School of Policing Studies and the Centre for Investigative Studies and Crime Reduction. This has involved both policing and external agencies eg. insurance companies. In both these previous areas he has also been involved in delivering these subjects through distance education. This has involved the development of online learning modules to facilitate more effective online learning. Another major area of interest and endeavour is learning and teaching. He has previously been the School of Policing Studies Chair of the Learning and Teaching Committee. Also he has been involved in developing and delivering lecturer training courses in varied areas of learning and teaching (including induction training, problem based learning & reflective practice). This has included evaluating the teaching practice of lecturers in the School of Policing Studies. John has also been involved with curriculum development at the School of Policing Studies (SOPS) since 2001. He has been involved in the development of three curriculums. At present he is a member of the Academic Coordination Unit which is managing the development of an integrated curriculum.
