Lachlan Schwarz

Biography

Dr Lachlan Schwarz completed his studies in Australia at the University of Newcastle, where he was awarded a PhD for his investigations into Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) and their application towards the selective analysis of compounds responsible for 'Cork Taint' in wines. Lachlan then sought industry experience, first as an Analytical Chemist at Bluetongue Brewery followed by that of Senior Analytical Chemist at Amdel Environmental Laboratories. Lachlan then resumed his interests in Analytical Chemistry research at Monash University, developing MIPs for the selective separation and concentration of bioactives from food waste streams as well as the development of surface functionalised sensors for biomacromolecular recognition. More Post Doctoral research was to follow at the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre at CSU investigating the influence of fungal metabolites on grape and wine quality and their sensory thresholds. Lachlan was appointed Lecturer in the School of Agricultural and Wine Science in 2016 and is part of the Chemistry Teaching Team. He is the Charles Sturt University representative to the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), and holds memberships with the RACI, Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST) and The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
