Biography
Prof Lexin Wang is a practicing physician specialising in both cardiology and general practice. He is a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ), and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). He completed his clinical training in cardiac electrophysiology at Royal Perth Hospital in 1993, and a PhD in medicine at University of Tasmania in 1998, before joining CSU where he has been working as an academic and a clinician. Prof Wang's main areas of research has been cardiac electrophysiology and pharmacology. He was one of the first physicians who developed catheter techniques to ablate several types of tachycardias. His team was the first to introduce minimally invasive techniques (keyhole surgeries) to treat congenital cardiac defects in children and young adults. Prof Wang currently directs an international team of researchers, working on stem cell therapies for cardiovascular disorders, as well as quality use of medicines in the management of hypertension, coronary artery disease and heart failure. Prof Wang is an author of 350 peer-reviewed journal articles, and co-authored two major cardiology textbooks. He is a recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Research Excellence in 2002 and 2006 at Charles Sturt University
