Biography
Manoranjan Paul received the B.Sc.Eng. (hons.) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1997 and the PhD degree from Monash University, Australia in 2005. He has 15 years research experience in image/video and signal processing related fields and 14 years teaching experience in the field of Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology as an Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, and Assistant Lecturer. Dr. Paul was an Associate Director, Centre for Research in Complex Systems (CRiCS) 2013-2015, Steering Committee Member of Data Science Research Unit 2015–present, and Senior Lecturer, School of Computing and Mathematics, Charles Sturt University. He joined the department of Computer Science and Engineering, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh as a Lecturer in 1997 and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2000. He has worked as a Research Fellow in the University of New South Wales, ADFA, Canberra, Australia in 2005~2006, Monash University, Australia in 2006~2009, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2009~2011. Now he is a Faculty Member at the School of Computing and Mathematics of Charles Sturt University, Australia and Associate Director of Centre for Research in complex Systems. He is a video coding expert. His major research interests are in the fields of image/video coding/compression, computer vision, hyperspectral imaging, and EEG signals. He has published more than 110 fully refereed international journals, book chapters, and conference articles. Dr. Paul regularly published in the top ranked journals such as IEEE Transactions on image processing, IEEE Transactions on circuits and systems for video technology, IEEE Transactions on multimedia, IEEE Transactions on biomedical engineering and IEEE Transactions on neural systems and rehabilitation engineering. Dr Paul is a Senior Member of the IEEE ('M03 and SM'13) and ACS (M'05 and SM'13). Dr. Paul obtained an ARC (Australian Research council) discovery grant on "Multiview Video coding," $315,000 for 2013-2015. Dr. Paul organized special sessions on "New video coding technologies" and "Free viewpoint video challenges", in the IEEE ISCAS-2010 and PCS-2015. He is an invited keynote speakers on "Video Coding" in the IEEE ICCIT-2010, IEEE DICTA-2013, and IEEE WoWMoM-2014. He is an Associate Editor of Eurasip Journal on Advances in Signal Processing. He is also in the editorial board member in the International Journal of Engineering and Industries (IJEI) and International Journal of Soft Computing, Mathematics and Control (IJSCMC). He is also a Guest Editor for five special issues of Journal of Multimedia and Journal of Computers. He is a program committee member of 40 International conferences. He obtained more than $1M in competitive grants including ARC DP project, Australian-China Science Research fund, and ARC Research Network grants. He has supervised 12 PhD, one Masters, and 7 Honours/undergraduate students.
