Biography
Dr Marie Sheahan is a sociologist who teaches in leisure and health at CSU. Her areas of research include disability, rural social service delivery, welfare reform, environmental justice and education for sustainability. Her work draws on political economy, sociology and critical studies. Her PhD was concerned with exploring the effects of neoliberal development on the community welfare sector in Australia. Her practice work has been in disability services and service development. In addition to her academic work she is also a rural disability advocate. She has contributed to a recent DEWHA project investigating education for sustainability for healthcare workers. She is engaged in community development projects that aim to build links between universities, communities and organisations focused on building sustainable practices and livelihoods.
