Biography
Dr Yakin obtained his Bachelor's degree in Iraq in 2008, his Master's degree in Diagnostic Oral Pathology with Distinction from the University of Sheffield in 2011, and his Doctoral degree in Clinical Dentistry – Oral Pathology from the University of Otago in 2016 before joining CSU as a senior lecturer in oral pathology. In 2013 he won the first IADR/Unilever-Hatton Divisional Award for the Iraqi section. In addition, he is the recipient of several scholarships, research grants and awards, and teaching awards. He has acquired extensive diagnostic oral histopathology experience from his Master's course in the UK, practice in Iraq, and doctoral studies in New Zealand, where he worked as a specialist registrar in the Oral Pathology Centre in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Otago which is New Zealand's only specialist oral histopathology laboratory and a national referral centre for specimens from the oral and maxillofacial regions.
Research Interest
Oral cancer tumour microenvironment and biomarkers in addition to odontogenic lesions and dental pathology.
