Biography
Dr Loukopoulos is a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Pathology. His focus is diagnostic anatomic pathology, the study of disease as seen grossly, histologically, and at the molecular pathology level. He teaches pathology-related subjects to veterinary science students, coordinates the final year pathology rotations, and provides anatomic pathology diagnostic service through the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. His main research interests lie in tumour pathology and in the diagnostic investigation and study of the pathogenesis of livestock and wildlife diseases. Some of the projects he is currently working on include studies on plant toxicities of livestock, and on retrovirally induced tumours of small ruminants. Dr Loukopoulos is the author of over 100 journal articles or conference presentations on pathology. He is currently co-supervising two PhDs, and a Master's in Equine Science. He acts as an ad hoc reviewer of veterinary or pathology journal articles, having reviewed for 12 different journals to date. Dr Loukopoulos graduated from Aristotle University (Greece), took the wrong path for a short time (anaesthesia studies), but quickly made an uneventful recovery with a PhD on canine osteosarcoma pathology at the University of Queensland. Following postdoctoral work for two years on liver and pancreatic cancer genomics at the National Cancer Center in Tokyo, and several years as an assistant professor at Aristotle University, he joined CSU following a two year period at the California Animal Health and Food Safety lab of the University of California Davis.
