Rachel Walls

Biography

Rachel has a background in film and television production. Her postgraduate studies in animation have been supplemented by traditional and digital work in animation for screen and environmental projection. Since completion of her Masters in Animation (UTS, 2009), Rachel has been lecturing in tertiary education in balance with her creative work. Since 2014, she has been working with art collective tranSTURM on abstract animations for site-specific installation. Her recent activities with tranSTURM include contributing to Vivid Light 2016. While she embraces the technological tools of her trade in the digital realm, Rachel prefers direct film and paint-on-glass animation styles in her personal work. Her current research seeks to express an intersection of inclusive design and abstract animation, giving consideration to the transference of somatic practice in arts, siting of work, and a modernization of abstraction based on human performance.
