Biography
Ruth Townsend is a lecturer in Law and Sociology at Charles Sturt University. Ruth has practiced most recently as a commercial lawyer for the NSW government. She has also worked with the federal government and as a solicitor in general practice in regional NSW. Ruth was a lecturer in law at the ANU College of Law prior to her move to CSU. Ruth's research focuses on the regulation of health practitioners, and the impact of international trade agreements on domestic health policy. Ruth has published in several national and international peer-reviewed journals including the Annual Review of Public Health, the Medical Journal of Australia and the Journal of Law and Medicine. Ruth has also published in many industry journals including the Australian Privacy Law Bulletin and the Australian Health Law Bulletin. Ruth has also published the first Australian and New Zealand text on law and ethics for paramedics, Applied Paramedic Law and Ethics. Ruth is an award winning lecturer who enjoys playing the piano badly from time-to-time.
