Biography
"Dr Andrew Parkin PhD, FRANZCP, MRCPsych, PGCertHealthSci (Forensic Psychiatry), BM, BS, BMedSci (Hons) I am a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist with extensive experience in England, New Zealand and New South Wales. I qualified as a Psychiatrist in the UK in 1990, have 24 years’ experience of child and adolescent mental health, and am a member of the Faculty of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. After holding a Wellcome Research Fellowship at the University of Leicester, UK, I was appointed Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant there in 1996. I completed a PhD on children’s perception of the emotional quality of relations. I worked in Auckland 2001-2009 in general and specialist public services, including adolescent drug and alcohol, conduct disorder, adolescent forensic psychiatry, children in out-of-home care, and Pacific Island services, and later ran a private clinic part-time. I held a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Auckland for two years, where I was Program coordinator of a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences (Child & Adolescent Mental Health) and a PhD supervisor. Moving to Sydney in 2009, I was employed fulltime in CAMH community teams in Blacktown and Mt Druitt, and on acute and subacute adolescent inpatient and day patient units at Redbank House, Westmead Hospital. I have co-authored a book for front-line professionals on child mental health (in its second edition), published 14 papers in international peer-reviewed journals on childhood relations, routine outcome measurement, self harm, service development, IT in clinical services, and postgraduate training, presented 25 papers at international and national conferences, and was a working party member of the NSW CAMHS Competency Framework."
