Biography
John Rolfe was educated at the Brisbane Grammar School, and then received undergraduate degrees from the University of Queensland in Commerce and Ecomomics in 1982 and 1986, the latter with first class honours. He completed his PhD on environmental valuation with the University of New South Wales in 1999. He has a background in the pastoral industry, and spent 25 years running a cattle property in central Quensland.
Research Interest
Environmental valuation, specifically using the contingent valuation and choice modelling techniques modelling community values for environmental and social impacts of major project development and resource use, modelling demands and pricing of agricultural resources, especially beef cattle and irrigation water, the sustainable use of rangelands in northern Australia , the development of carbon offset vegetation programs for greenhouse gas emissions, and the sustainable development of rural communities.
