Biography
Professsor Ironside has over 30 years experience in semiconductor optoelectronics research and in particular microfabrication of semiconductor photonic components such as laser diodes for optical communications systems, optical sensing and optical metrology systems. He has published over 120 research journal publications and 200 conference papers and has won awards for transfering research knowledge for commercial exploitation ( http://www.semiconductor-today.com/news_items/2012/NOV/CSTG_221112.html). He recently joined (June 2014) the department of imaging and applied physics at Curtin University.
Research Interest
Professor Ironside has extensive experience in optoelectronics particularly semiconductor integrated optoelectronics and a main theme has been integrated laser diode chips. His main areas of interest include:- Quantum Cascade lasers Photonic integration for atomic clocks, magnetometers and frequency standards Ultrashort pulse laser diodes Resonant Tunnelling Diode OptoElectronic Integrated Circuits Research highlights include:- Fastest all optical semiconductor switch Invention multiple colliding pulse passively modelocked laser diode Invention of the two photon semiconductor laser First Quantum Cascade laser made in Europe and first PhD on quantum cascade lasers was carried out under my supervision Pioneer of resonant tunnelling diode optoelectronic integrated circuits Grating microtraps traps for atomic vapour.
