Janet Bornman
" Adjunct Professor"
School of Management
Curtin University
Australia
Biography
Prior to coming to Curtin University, Janet was Director of the International Global Change Centre at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, and previously Research Director of Plant Biology at the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Denmark, and Professor of Plant Physiology at Lund University in Sweden. Janet has served on a wide range of committees and boards and is co-Chair of the UNEP Environmental Effects Assessment Panel (EEAP).
Research Interest
Effects of environmental pressures on plants, in particular climate change interactions with respect to stratospheric ozone and solar UV-B radiation, focusing on a systems/holistic approach. Physiological and biochemical studies on plant response to UV radiation, visible radiation, temperature, heavy metals, fungal infection; application of stress for inducing plant quality traits; flavonoid antioxidant induction under stress. Food security issues relating to climate change adaptation and response. Interested in exploring alternative multi-functional crops (for healthy food, fibre, nutraceuticals), in particular native crops that are currently under-researched and barely commercialised.
