Biography
Dr Gayathri Manokaran started her scientific career in veterinary parasitology in Singapore. She soon realised that her true interest lay in virology and pursued an Honours degree at Monash University. Her project, based at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) in Geelong involved work with paramyxoviruses. Gayathri then returned to Singapore to complete her PhD at the National University of Singapore under Eng Ong Ooi. Her work, on how subgenomic RNA in epidemic dengue viruses subverted the immune system for increased transmission was published in Science. Gayathri joined Professor Cameron Simmons group in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology as a postdoctoral Fellow in July 2015.
