Biography
Laichang is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering. Dr Laichang Zhang was awarded his PhD at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has considerable researches on the alloy development, synthesis and microstructure characterisation and properties evaluation of advanced engineering materials, including nanocrystalline / ultrafine-grained metallic materials, bulk metallic glasses, biomaterials, and high-strength steels. He is an internationally recognised expert in the alloy development of advanced metallic materials (including nanocrystalline / ultrafine-grained materials, bulk metallic glasses) as well as the understanding of their processing-microstructure-property relationships. Dr Zhang has extensively contributed to a number of research grants supported by Australian Research Council, European Union, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China. He also has good links to industry both for teaching and research.
