Mostafa Naser

Biography

Dr Mostafa Naser is Lecturer in Law in the School of Business and Law. Mostafa lectured at Macquarie University, Federation University and University of Chittagong. He holds a LLB (Hons) from the University of London, a Master’s degree in law from the University of Chittagong, a Post Graduate Diploma on International Humanitarian Law from NALSAR University of Law, India and a PhD in Law from Macquarie University, Australia. Mostafa qualified as Advocate of Judges Court and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 2004 and 2007 respectively and has practiced law in both jurisdictions. Mostafa’s areas of research and professional interests include commercial law, refugee and migration law, environmental law and human rights. Mostafa has extensively published in reputed peer-reviewed academic journals and edited books including William and Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review (USA), Nordic Journal of International Law (Sweden) and Asian Journal of Law and Society (Cambridge University Press). He has been a research fellow, Earth System Governance Network; visiting researcher at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada and University of Sydney; Legal Expert of Legal Response Initiative (LRI), London; member of Asian Society of International Law (ASIL); organizing secretary, The Bangladesh Chapter of Asian Society of International Law. He was awarded MAHBUB-UL-HAQ Research Awards in 2008 for study on ‘Understanding Suicide Terrorism in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka’ and the outcome of the project is published as book by the Regional Centre for Strategic studies (RCSS). He has experience of working with national, international and inter-governmental human rights and environmental organizations including ADB, ICRC, UNDP and IOM. Mostafa has been a Research Consultant of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in MECLEP Project in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
