Biography
Professor Tony Weiss is the world leader in human tropoelastin and Elastin research and its applications. A multiple University prize winner, Fulbright Scholar and learned society medalist, he is the main inventor and scientific expert behind the Intellectual Property licensed by Elastagen from the University of Sydney. Tony established the leading international human tropoelastin research laboratory which for over the past 15 years has significantly increased our understanding of the expression, handling and applications of human tropoelastin. Tony's lab was the first to construct a synthetic gene capable of large scale production of the full-length human tropoelastin protein. Tony's various chair roles include the USA Gordon Research Conference on Elastin and the Elastic Fiber, university Molecular Biotechnology Program and the Australian Research Council College of Experts biology and biotechnology panel. Tony has been a Visiting Professor at multiple universities overseas, holds honorary appointments in Cardiology and Molecular & Clinical Genetics and serves on biomaterials and bionanoscience editorial boards. The University of Sydney recognized his achievements by awarding him a Personal Professorial Chair.
