Biography
Professor Brooks joined the Epworth board of management in 2008, and is a member of the Human Research and Ethics Committee, the Board Audit and Compliance Committee and is Chair of the Patient Care Committee. Professor Brooks is a professorial fellow in the School of Population and Global Health and the School of Medicine at the University of Melbourne. He is the executive director of research at Northern Health Epping where is heavily involved in the organisation of translational research. He was executive dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at The University of Queensland from 1997 to 2009 and has held previous posts as Professor of Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney (University of New South Wales) and was the foundation professor of Rheumatology at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. Professor Brooks completed his medical training at Monash University in Melbourne and then studied rheumatology under Professor Watson Buchanan in Glasgow. Professor Brooks has published and commentates in the area of treatment and outcomes in arthritis including psychological aspects and in the area of health workforce. He recently established the Australian Health Workforce Institute at the University of Melbourne to explore health workforce reform.
