Biography
"A cancer diagnosis is devastating news for patients and close ones. Overall outcomes are improving rapidly with new interventions. I strive to bring the best outcomes to my patients and believe that the answer is out there to permanently control this disease." With his origins in Sri-Lanka, Ari completed his initial Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor Surgery at the University of Colombo, graduating with honours in clinical sciences before heading to Newham University Hospital in the UK. He moved to Australia in 2007 to take up a position at Royal Perth Hospital, which enabled him follow his passion and undertake specialist training in medical oncology in both WA and NSW. As a consultant medical oncologist, Ari is involved in teaching medical students and medical oncologists in training. He also has a signifcant research interest and combines clinical practice with research work at Linear Clinical Research. His research has led to several publications, including a poster presentation at the 2016 European Society for Medical Oncology meeting, and more are pending. Ari is a member of the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Clinical Drug Trials Committee, the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG). Ari treats all solid tumours, but has a particular interest in lung, gastrointestinal and urological cancers. He is also developing a supportive system to assist patients with advanced cancers in third world countries which will improve overall care.
