Tim Clay

Biography

 “A cancer diagnosis is usually extremely confronting - guiding patients through their treatment options is essential.” Tim received his undergraduate medical degree from the University of Western Australia in 2004 with honours. He spent his junior medical career at Royal Perth Hospital including rotations to Swan Districts, Bunbury and Kalgoorlie. In 2010, he moved to Victoria and undertook advanced training in medical oncology at Geelong Hospital (Barwon Health) and at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. Tim has practiced medical oncology across Australia including Melbourne, regional Victoria, regional NSW and regional Queensland. He returned home to Perth in 2014 where he initially worked in a locum capacity at Royal Perth Hospital and Rockingham General Hospital. He was subsequently appointed to a permanent public position at Rockingham General Hospital and then expanded his private practice to include the Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre at St John of God Hospital in Subiaco and Genesis CancerCare at Shenton House in Joondalup. Tim’s professional interests include clinical trials, to improve the treatment options of future cancer patients, and the undergraduate and postgraduate training of health care professionals. Tim is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), a member of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA), and a member of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA). At present, Tim is completing his doctoral thesis on lung cancer, and had his first major work, ‘The clinical relevance of pathologic subtypes in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma,’ published in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology in 2014. He is actively involved in cooperative clinical trials groups including the Australasian Lung Cancer Trials Group (ALTG), the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG) and the Australasian GastroIntesital Trials Group (AGITG).
