Biography
Appointed 25 February 2015, Mr Claude Mandil has previously held a number of key positions in the areas of industry and energy. Mr Mandil was Technical Advisor in the French Prime Minister’s cabinet, where he was responsible for industry, energy and research and also held the positions of Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Industrial Development (IDI), a government-owned investment bank, and Director General of the Bureau of Mines and Geology (BRGM), the French Geological Survey. Mr Mandil served as Director General for Energy and Raw Materials at the Ministry of Industry and became France’s first representative on the IEA’s Governing Board, and served as Chairman. He was Managing Director of Gaz de France and then Chairman and CEO of the Institut Français du Pétrole. Mr Mandil was Executive Director of the International Energy Agency from early 2003 until his retirement in late 2007. Mr Mandil is a Director of ATKearney Energy Transition Institute.
