Biography
After completing her doctoral studies at UWA, exploring the immunomodulatory effects of type I interferons, Dr Bosio ventured into the field of transplantation immunology, first investigating cytokine-mediated immunosuppression approaches for myoblast transplantation and then taking up a post-doctoral position at the University of Padua, Italy, investigating diverse immunological aspects of xenotransplantation. This work included cytoprotection and immunomodulation approaches for islet xenotransplantation and allotransplantation as well as investigating humoral rejection following kidney xenotransplantation and clinical allotransplantation. After 6 years overseas, Dr Bosio returned home to Perth, where she took up a position at the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research with the Centre for Diabetes Research investigating human embryonic stem cells as an alternative b-cell source for transplantation for Type I Diabetes. Prior to taking up the position at CCREM in September 2015, Dr Bosio has also been involved in projects investigating aspects of Cancer Immunology, working on an immunotherapy targeting mesothelioma and melanoma.
