Biography
Stephen Macdonald undertook specialist training in Emergency Medicine in Western Australia. He obtained his Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in 2010. In 2011 Dr Macdonald was apointed as a clinical academic at the University of Western Australia, based at Armadale Health Service where he established a productive research unit. In 2015 he moved to Royal Perth Hospital and divides his time between research and clinical work in the Emergency Department. Dr Macdonald has successfully completed a number of research studies on topics such as chest pain and heart failure. the main theme of his current research work is sepsis. He is leading a national multicentre pilot trial comparing fluid sparing versus fluid liberal resuscitation in septic shock (ACTRN12616000006448), and is completing a PhD investigating endothelial cell activation biomarkers in sepsrs pathogenesis and diagnosis.
