Biography
He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1992 and completed his cardiology training at St Vincent‟s Hospital and Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre in Melbourne, before undertaking a two-year interventional fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Ohio. He completed a Masters of Public Health, at the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard University, focusing on quantitative methods, advanced biostatistics, decision analysis and cost-effectiveness methodology. Prof Derek Chew research interests in the field of risk assessment among patients with coronary artery disease and those undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, anti-thrombotic and anti-platelet therapies for the treatment of coronary heart disease and the evaluation of clinical outcomes used in clinical trials. He serves as the chairman of the National Acute Coronary Syndromes Data Definitions working group. He is a member of the NHF guidelines for the management of acute coronary syndromes, and is currently the chairman of the Acute Coronary Syndrome Electronic Decision Support working group.
