Biography
Dr James Deane completed his PhD at The University of Melbourne studying cell biology and subsequently undertook his postdoctoral training at Yale University (USA), using model organisms to identify processes involved in human health and disease. On returning to Australia, Dr Deane worked at Monash University studying renal regeneration and immunology and joined The Ritchie Centre at Hudson Institute in 2012.
Research Interest
Dr Deane’s studies at Hudson Institute focus on the cell biology underlying the regenerative capacity of the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) and its role in fertility and disease. He is examining the role of endometrial stem/progenitor cells during endometrial regeneration. A key aim of this work is to understand how improper regulation of endometrial stem/progenitor cells might cause endometriosis, a common condition where the endometrium escapes the uterus and causes painful growths on other organs.
