Biography

Philip Bardin leads the Respiratory and Lung Research Group, and is Professor of Respiratory Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University and Director of Monash Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Melbourne. Prof Bardin obtained a PhD at Southampton University, working under Stephen Holgate (with Seb Johnston). He has received Australian NHMRC and other research grants and has published widely in Respiratory Medicine. In addition to a network of collaborations in Australia, North America and Europe, links to the MRC Asthma Research Group in Southampton are ongoing. Currently, he is Deputy Editor and Editor-in-Chief Elect of Respirology, the official journal of the The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR). He has chaired the TSANZ Asthma and Allergy Special Interest Group, served on Australian NHMRC Grant Review Panels (Respiratory & Sleep Medicine) and chaired the NHMRC Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Grant Review Panel. Recently he also served on the Australian NHMRC Academy.

Research Interest

Prof Bardin is recognised for research of virus-asthma exacerbations and has conducted extensive research of clinical asthma therapies and treatment. Recently, his research group pioneered investigations of vocal cord dysfunction in asthma.
