Biography

  Hanry Yu is Director of the Company. He is a Professor of Physiology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in the National University Health System (NUHS) Singapore. He is also a Group Leader of Tissue Engineering at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology with the Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR) Singapore; Director of the Microscopy and Cytometry core facilities in NUHS; Principal Investigator at the Singapore Mechanobiology Institute. From 2008-2014, Prof. Yu was a visiting professor of Mechanical and Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Prof Yu is also co-founder of Invitrocue Pte Ltd and Chairman of the Company’s Scientific Advisory Board. Prof Yu graduated with a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Duke University, USA in 1994, and exposed to interdisciplinary environment at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) on a HFSP Long Term Fellowship before starting his academic career in Singapore in 1997. Prof. Yu has published 148 research articles in leading journals covering a few disciplines from cell biology, biomaterials and tissue engineering, to biomedical optics, lab chips and pharmaceutical science. He has been invited to deliver to over 138 plenary, keynote and invited talks, published 238 conference proceedings, 6 books and filed 43 patents and patent applications with 5 patent families licensed to companies. Prof. Yu was awarded the inaugural Young Researcher Award by the National University of Singapore in 2002, the Faculty Research Excellence Award by NUHS in 2009, and the A*STAR Scientist Entrepreneur Award 2013. To-date, he takes pride in having over 240 scientists, graduate students and national scholars mentored by him over the years, who went on to develop outstanding careers in academia and industry worldwide. He consults for various agencies and institutions worldwide. He is a handling editor for a leading journal “Biomaterials” published by Elsevier.
