Research Interest
His current research is focused on algal sulfated polysaccharides (ASPs) known for their interesting rheological and chemical properties, and biological activities, including antiviral, antioxidant, anticoagulant, antihyperlipidemic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. Chris’s research involves biorefinery design and validation, and investigation of ASP structure and function relationships to optimise ASP rheological properties and biological activities. Applications for ASP products include multifunctional food additives, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnologies (e.g. wound dressing and tissue engineering).
