Biography
Received his PhD in Microbiology from Rutgers University in 1975 He worked for two years on strategic planning for the development of renewable fuels from biomass at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory then for two years in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Columbia University. He was a staff scientist, Project Leader and Senior Scientist, ST at USDA Forest Products Laboratory in Madison from 1979 through 2012. Dr. Jeffries joined the University of Wisconsin Department of Bacteriology in 1990 where he taught Biotechnology and Industrial Microbiology. He was promoted to Professor in 1998 and Emeritus Professor in 2013. In 2007, He founded Xylome Corporation, which develops and implements technology for the fermentation of cellulosic and hemicellulosic sugars to ethanol and higher value products.
