Biography
Robert A. Gabbay, MD, PhD, FACP has over 35 years of clinical and research experience and is Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at Joslin Diabetes Center. His research focuses on improving diabetes health care delivery to enhance diabetes outcomes and patients’ experiences. Dr. Gabbay, originally a native of New York City, completed his Bachelor's Degree at McGill University and received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin where he studied insulin signaling mechanisms. After an Internal Medicine Residency at Cornell University - New York Hospital and he then completed a joint Fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Joslin Diabetes Center followed by a faculty position at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School with Dr. Jeffrey Flier’s laboratory. He then joined the Penn State College of Medicine faculty in 1998 until 2013. While at Penn State, he founded the Penn State Institute for Diabetes and Obesity which encompassed more than 300 translational researchers and clinicians.
