Biography
I design Light Weight tensile fabric structures. Its more than a job, it’s been my passion since 1992. I love the technology, the creative process, the engineering. My skill set’s unique. With a background in mechanical design, customized steel and hydraulic componentry I have a high degree of competency in all facets of design and engineering technologies. With a Master’s qualification in Engineering Lightweight Structures issued through the University of Vienna I’ve been exposed to architects and engineers that have worked through the evolvement of the Tensile Membrane form from pen and paper beginnings to the technology driven 21st Century. I’ve studied with Frei Otto disciples, Horst Durr, Jurgen Hennicke, Vinzenz Sedlak, Rainer Blum and Robert Wehdron-Roithmayr. To this cauldron of knowledge I bring my own expertise with the development of a Fluid Structural Interface (FSI) a process to pressure map from the CFD software to the FEA model. Furthermore in developing optimum design configurations for tensile structures I have created automated calculation sheets for the analysis of structural components. The sheets cover the Australian, American and British codes. My abilities are reflected in my portfolio of award winning structures including the Wide Span Fabric Structure, Qld, Australia for which I developed a wishbone steel support configuration to create a unique ridge and valley roof profile – IFAI outstanding achievement 2012 and YAS Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE – LSAA Excellence Award 2011. In addition to these projects my design team and myself have frequently been the design and engineering brand behind other Award winning tensile membrane projects.
