Biography
Sung-Young Kim is a political scientist whose research focuses on the developmental states of East Asia and efforts to create new global higher-technology industries. He is especially interested in the sources of the state's capacity for the promotion of new products, systems, and innovations. In this vein, his works have focused on the promotion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Renewable Energy Technologies (RET). These fields of inquiry are driven from the following 'big' question: Why - and under what conditions - are some governments able and willing to use state power for economic advancement, while others are more likely to shun this role, or else engage in predatory behaviour?
